SRC has a strong interest in community cohesion. We work on a wide variety of projects in this increasingly important area of national policy.
We have worked directly with BME communities in many neighbourhoods, particularly those affected by Housing Market Renewal programmes, Cultural and religious sensitivities are vitally important and we now have important experience in this area.
Housing market renewal is an often contentious aspect of urban policy as far as many BME communities are concerned; SRC's role has often been to find a balance between the need to tackle housing market failure through physical intervention whilst strengthening the bonds and networks between different communities which have often been carefully built up over many years.
Our ground-breaking report on the Social Dimension in Manningham, followed an intensive programme of consultation with residents in this complex multi-cultural Bradford neighbourhood, as part of a masterplanning process for the City Council.
As well as our in-house expertise, we have a pool of local interpreters and translators who we often call on to help with exhibitions, drop-ins and workshops in multi-cultural areas.
