Research & Evaluation

SRC is not a research organisation, but we do carry out research as part of our work across a number of fields. We are increasingly involved in evaluations of both small and larger projects.

We have carried out our own research and evaluations for local authorities, as well as working in partnership with other consultancies. Our major 2 year evaluation of the North Benwell Neighbourhood Management Initiative in Newcastle figured prominently in national evaluations of neighbourhood management, commissioned by Government.

In Manningham, Bradford, where SRC had responsibility for researching the social dimension of this complex, multi-cultural neighbourhood, we worked closely with local research company Trescom, to carry out a community attitudes survey, informing our ground-breaking report for the Manningham masterplan.

We have a close working relationship with a North East-based company - Eljay Research - who carry out qualitative and quantitative research, using local, experienced interviewers for many of our projects.

Eljay have also trained residents to carry out household interviews for our projects in Hattersley (Tameside), West Middlesbrough and Daneshouse (Burnley) - the latter in partnership with local community agency Participation Works. The use of resident interviewers not only provides temporary employment for some people, it also equips them with new skills and is often rightly seen as part of a community capacity building programme for a neighbourhood.
