Whitley Bay Partnership: Audit & survey of extended services

Background Information

Commissioned by North Tyneside Council and the Whitley Bay Partnership of Schools to research community access to extended services in local schools, involving primary research of 600 households through a sample survey (by Eljay Research), interviews with headteachers and potential hirers of school sites and focus groups with rarely heard groups

The Whitley Bay Partnership of Schools is keen to improve community access to Extended Services in the North East Area of North Tyneside. The Partnership wants to ensure that the best possible services are shaped and delivered in partnership with other providers, in accordance with local needs.

The main aims of the research were to:

  • Inform and improve Extended Services provision in the Whitley Bay Partnership of Schools, especially community learning

 

  • Assess the strength, appropriateness and limitations of existing school Extended Services provision for community use

 

  • Strengthen current partnership working to improve extended service provision for community use

 

  • Assess community needs and aspirations for Extended Services through primary research

 

  • Ensure rarely heard or under-represented group's views are included

 

  • Provide the building blocks for an Action Plan for future targeting of Extended Services resources at communities
